Spreading the word about HarvRESt at the European Sustainable Phosphorus Conference

From 8 to 10 October, Ignacio García-Berro Navarro, a PhD student at the BETA Technological Centre, presented a poster at the European Sustainable Phosphorus Conference (ESPC5) held in Lleida, Catalonia.

The conference, which brought together around 250 participants, showcased discussions and research on sustainable phosphorus management, attracted a diverse audience that included researchers, industry representatives from fertiliser and phosphorus recovery companies, administrative representatives, and farmers.

Ignacio García-Berro Navarro’s poster provided an overview of the HarvRESt project, with a particular focus on the Catalan use case, where the main interest is to collect data from a biorefinery to model and optimise biogas production from agro-residues. Furthermore, the fertiliser potential of the nutrients recovered from the resulting by-product (the digestate) will be assessed to mitigate the impact of renewable energy, increase circularity in the farm and diversify farm incomes.

The attendees were interested in the general idea of the project and many questions focused on how the digestate would be used as fertiliser in the fields.
